Jonathan Steele has been making pottery since 2009 and has honed the nuances of teaware craft since 2016. Jonathan holds an MFA from Oregon College of Art and Craft and has completed residencies at Pleasant Hill Pottery in Oregon and Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Shigaraki, Japan. He recently built his studio in Redmond, WA and lives in Seattle.
This work is from the “Fall 2025 Cloud Kiln Collection” that was handmade in Redmond, WA and woodfired in “Cloud Kiln” near Granite Falls, WA in November 2025. This kiln overlooks the South Fork Stillaguamish River Valley and was fired in this season to cone 11 with a light reduction cooling technique that brings metallic iron out of the clay for this depth of surface and color effect.
