Plum Road (Umekaido)
Throughout much of the ancient world, surrounding areas under the protection or rule of a larger power sent tribute as a way to show their fealty. Starting in the Asuka period in the 6th Century, the area of Wakasa, Fukui Prefecture was famous for sending salt and seafood to the Imperial Court.
While no wars were started in the making of this incense, Hayashi-Ryushudo was inspired by this aspect of bringing something special from another part of Japan to create this mature scent. In line with the founding of this business in the 1830s, was also the establishment of the first plum orchard in Wakasa, from which the plums used to make this scent are sourced. Included in this blend of red plum is sandalwood and cloves. Each batch is carefully crafted to deliver a clean and unforgettable scent.
